We’re so happy to have you in Augusta. If you find yourself with a little time before the celebration—or you’re not quite ready to head home on Sunday—here are a few ways to spend it.

Stroll the Riverwalk

Take a walk along the Savannah River through downtown Augusta. It’s an easy way to get outside, stretch your legs after traveling, and see a little of the city without committing your whole afternoon.

Wander Downtown

Downtown Augusta is home to local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, galleries, and historic architecture. Start around Broad Street and wander from there—it's an easy option if you have a few hours to fill.

Visit the Augusta Museum of History

If you’d like to learn a little about the city while you’re here, the Augusta Museum of History covers the region’s history and some of the people and traditions that have shaped it.

Walk the Augusta Canal

For something a little quieter, spend some time along the historic Augusta Canal. The towpath is great for a leisurely walk, and the canal itself offers a completely different view of the city.

Explore Phinizy Swamp Nature Park

Trails, wetlands, boardwalks, and plenty of wildlife make Phinizy a lovely escape just outside downtown. If you’re arriving early and the weather is nice, this would be one of my picks for a slower Friday afternoon.

Cross the River

North Augusta, South Carolina is just across the Savannah River. The riverfront and surrounding area make an easy addition if you have more than a couple of hours to explore.

See the Masters' Hometown

Augusta is synonymous with golf, and you'll be visiting only a few weeks before Masters Tournament week. Even though Augusta National itself isn't generally open for sightseeing, golf fans may enjoy seeing the city as it begins gearing up for its biggest annual event.
