Our Wedding

Our story began in 2019, although neither of us knew then exactly where it would lead.We met in Birmingham, exchanged Snapchats and stories, and eventually went on our first date at Chuy’s. By the end of it, we decided we were probably better suited as friends. For a while, that seemed to be where our story would remain. We stayed loosely in touch, our lives continuing along their separate paths, until we found our way back to one another in late 2020.This time, something was different.

01 | 2019–2021

Almost immediately, we learned what it meant to choose one another across distance. Hannah was at UAB in Birmingham, while Mikhaila was at Auburn. When we both graduated in May 2022, life did not bring us to the same city just yet. Mikhaila moved to Augusta to begin her career with Ajax Building, while Hannah remained in Birmingham working in clinical research at UAB.For the next several years, our relationship was measured in long drives, weekends together, and goodbyes that always seemed to come too quickly. Mikhaila made the trip from Augusta to Birmingham whenever she could, and when Hannah accepted a remote position with IQVIA in 2023, we were finally able to spend extended periods of time together in Augusta.

02 | 2021–2024

Love is not simply finding the right person. It is continuing to choose one another, again and again, through every season and every circumstance.

Mikhaila Said Yes

Less than two months later, on Christmas Eve, we took another leap and placed an offer on our first home together in Evans, Georgia. We closed on January 30, 2026, officially bringing four and a half years of long-distance love to an end. And, as if the beginning of this new chapter needed one final touch, it snowed on our very first day as homeowners.

MEET OUR PEOPLE

The ones who have loved us, laughed with us, cheered us on, and helped us become the people we are today. We couldn’t imagine saying “I do” without them beside us.

Hannah's Party

Emily and Hannah met through UAB’s Alpha Gamma Delta chapter, and she quickly became one of Hannah’s constants. Their college years were filled with the kind of memories that only seem to happen in college, including a spring break trip to the beach that happened to coincide with the moment COVID suddenly became very real. In the strange months that followed, Emily’s apartment became a second home, with Hannah spending more days there than not.

Then there was New Orleans. Emily and Hannah stayed with Hannah’s brother, Austin, and his wife, Margot, and spent the trip catching parade after parade, exploring the city, laughing until they hurt, and having just a little too much fun. Over the years, Emily also became very good at being Hannah’s voice of reason, especially on the nights when Hannah might have needed one.

Like so many friendships after college, life eventually got busy and took them in different directions for a while. But some friendships have a way of picking right back up, and Emily came back into Hannah’s life just in time for one of its biggest chapters.

When Hannah decided she was going to ask Mikhaila to marry her, Emily was right there. She helped Hannah choose Mikhaila’s ring, decorate, and prepare for the proposal, making sure the day was everything Hannah hoped it would be.

Through college, COVID, countless adventures, and now this next chapter, Emily has been there for some of Hannah’s favorite memories and most important moments. She is Hannah’s rock, one of her dearest friends, and someone Hannah knows she can always count on. There was never a question that Emily would be standing beside Hannah on this day.

Colby came into Hannah’s life through Woodland, but their story really began much closer to home. Growing up in the same neighborhood and spending their youth group years together, the two quickly became inseparable. Some of Hannah’s favorite memories are the simplest ones: countless nights riding around in her Mustang with Colby, listening to Etta James, Nina Simone, and Dolly Parton, talking about life, laughing, and staying out much longer than they probably needed to.

Their friendship has always had a sense of adventure. Hannah and Colby served on several mission trips together, including two unforgettable trips to Costa Rica. Closer to home, they spent a trip to Helen hiking as many trails as they could, discovering two places that would become favorites, Raven Cliff Falls and Brasstown Bald. Another adventure took them hiking through Providence Canyon, adding yet another place, and plenty more stories, to a friendship that has always seemed to involve going somewhere.

Then there was the road trip from Massachusetts. When Colby needed to make the long drive home from college, Hannah volunteered to help drive his Jeep back down the East Coast. Between the Jeep’s oversized tires throwing off the speedometer and Hannah unknowingly making her way through New Jersey *far* faster than intended, the trip was already memorable. Then Colby broke his foot, leaving Hannah responsible for the rest of the drive home.

As if that were not enough, somewhere along the journey they spent the night in an old insane asylum. For Colby, this was an adventure. For Hannah, who is absolutely terrified of ghosts, it was a nightmare and an excellent reminder to be more involved in choosing accommodations. Between the asylum, the broken foot, and an unexpectedly high-speed tour of New Jersey, Hannah’s love of long road trips came to a swift and permanent end.

Through all of the adventures and questionable travel decisions, Colby has always been someone Hannah can count on for a laugh, a new playlist, an honest opinion, or genuinely good advice. From growing up down the street from one another and riding around in the Mustang to hiking mountains, traveling to Costa Rica, and surviving one truly unforgettable drive down the East Coast, they have collected a lifetime’s worth of stories together.

Having one of Hannah’s oldest friends standing beside her as her bridesman for this next chapter just makes sense.

Two Hannahs, one very special friendship.

Hannah and “Yost” met in 2016 through the Alabama Power Youth Tour, when they were each nominated to travel to Montgomery representing their respective hometowns, Yost from Montgomery and Hannah from Greenville. They became fast friends, and both were later selected for the Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C. By the time they came home, a friendship that would follow them through the next decade had begun.

After Youth Tour, Montgomery and Greenville never felt quite so far apart. Yost spent plenty of time down on the Schofield farm, while Hannah made her share of trips to Montgomery, and their mutual love of softball only gave them more to talk about. One of Yost’s favorite visits was Hannah’s graduation, complete with what may still be one of the best graduation parties ever thrown. There was a crawfish boil, a massive bonfire that became considerably more exciting when Hannah’s dad got a little generous with the gasoline, and the kind of days that could only happen on the Schofield farm. They spent the time afterward riding around the creeks, finishing off leftover crawfish, blowing up ant beds, playing with the blue heelers, checking on the cows, and making their own fun wherever they could find it.

There were also plenty of trips to see the Pink Pigmys before college eventually took them in different directions. Hannah headed to the University of Mobile while Yost went to UAB, but they stayed close, with birthday trips back to Greenville becoming part of the tradition. When Hannah later transferred to Auburn, Yost had the chance to introduce her to Mikhaila. As luck would have it, Hannah and Mikhaila ended up living only a few houses apart, giving Yost an even better excuse to visit.

Since then, Hannah’s career has taken her from Raleigh, working in marketing for Butterball, to Virginia and the steel industry. No matter where she goes, she brings the same curiosity and drive with her. She is always learning, creating, and finding the next thing to take on.

Yost has also had the privilege of watching Hannah find her person. She will never forget meeting Hannah in Opelika one night and learning that, only minutes earlier, Bailey had asked her to marry her. Seeing one of her oldest friends so happy, especially with a woman who had been part of Hannah’s world all the way back to their Greenville softball days, was a moment Yost will always treasure.

Hannah is one of the warmest, bubbliest, and most genuinely loving people Yost knows. She has a way of making people feel welcomed, cared for, and immediately part of the fun. From Montgomery and Washington, D.C. to Greenville farm days, college birthdays, Auburn visits, new careers, engagements, and everything in between, Yost is incredibly grateful that two teenagers named Hannah happened to be chosen for the same trip back in 2016.

And, of course, loving Hannah over the years has also meant loving the whole Schofield crew, including her wonderfully crazy brother, Bubba. Yost wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hart and Hannah have been family from the beginning, but somewhere along the way, they became friends too. Growing up in Montgomery, Hannah and Austin went to Saint James while Hart was just down Vaughn Road at Catholic. There were Christmases together every year, family gatherings, and all the memories that naturally come with growing up as cousins.

Hannah was there when Hart graduated from Catholic, which also happened to be the first stop after Hannah and Colby’s memorable road trip down the East Coast. From there, Hart headed straight to Auburn, which gave Hannah plenty of opportunities to see her outside the usual family gatherings. Whenever Hannah was in town, she knew that a text to Hart usually meant she could count on finding her at Sky Bar at some point before the night was over. Somewhere between Christmases at home and nights in Auburn, being cousins grew into a friendship of its own.

Hart graduated from Auburn this May and is now taking on her next chapter in graduate school. Hannah cannot wait to see where life takes her next and especially looks forward to cheering her on when it is time for another graduation.

Hart is smart, funny, easy to be around, and always a good time. There is something special about growing older and realizing that someone who has always been part of your family is also someone you would choose to have in your life as a friend.

Having Hart beside Hannah on her wedding day means getting to celebrate with both a cousin and a friend, and Hannah could not imagine it any other way.

Long before Birmingham became Hannah's home away from home, her brother Austin was the one who first showed her around. He introduced her to some of what would become her favorite places in the city, from Red Pearl and Blue Pacific to the good neighborhoods, the not-so-good neighborhoods, and even the apartment complex where he had lived during college, which Hannah would eventually call home herself. Most importantly, Austin introduced Hannah to the overlook atop Red Mountain, never knowing that years later, it would become the place where Hannah asked Mikhaila to marry her.

But Hannah and Austin had been exploring together long before Birmingham. Growing up, the two were often adventure buddies. Family ski trips took them to places like Breckenridge and Vail. Hannah had to start with lessons, but once she found her footing, she and Austin eventually graduated to riding double black diamonds together.

There were summers at Lake Martin, staying at their grandfather's house and spending as much time around the water as possible. Hannah and Austin even helped their dad build the boat dock there, adding their own little piece to a place that would hold so many family memories.

Then there were family trips to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, usually spent together in cabins in the mountains. One particular trip became family legend when Hannah and Austin found themselves having to fend off a bear at the cabin while their parents were away getting groceries. Somehow, both siblings and cabin survived.

Other vacations took the family south to Orange Beach and Pensacola to visit their Aunt Linda, their paternal grandmother, and Bart. Whether they were at the lake, the beach, in the mountains, or flying down a ski slope, Hannah grew up with a big brother who was rarely far from the adventure.

Austin was also an Eagle Scout, and with their dad leading his Boy Scout troop, Hannah spent plenty of evenings at Aldersgate doing homework while troop meetings happened around her. She even earned her own "woodchip" along the way and occasionally joined Austin, their dad, and the troop on camping trips.

Years later, when Hannah arrived in Birmingham for college, Austin became her guide all over again. On her first Fourth of July in the city, he took her to his boss's office at the top of the BBVA Tower, where they watched Thunder on the Mountain from above while listening to the broadcast on The Bull. He drove her around looking at apartments and introduced her to favorite restaurants like Red Pearl and Blue Pacific. When freshman-year Hannah managed the impressive feat of coming down with the flu, bronchitis, and pneumonia all at once, Austin took her to the doctor and then drove her halfway home, where their dad met them to take her the rest of the way.

Life has carried them well beyond those childhood adventures. Austin now lives in New Orleans with his wife, Margot, and their son, Hugo, and Hannah has had the joy of watching her big brother become a husband and father himself. Their relationship has grown up with them, but Austin still occupies that particular role only a big brother can: part guide, part protector, and part partner in the stories that become family legend.

Having Austin beside Hannah as she marries Mikhaila feels especially fitting. After all, long before either of them knew where Hannah's story was headed, her big brother was the one who first showed her the place where this next chapter would eventually begin.

For most of Hannah's childhood, if she decided she wanted to try something, Glenn's response was to figure out how to make it happen.

There was softball, and a lot of softball. Glenn threw countless balls with Hannah, pitched to her in the batting cages, and helped her practice behind the plate as a catcher. Most days Hannah carried her own bag and dragged her rolling catching gear behind her, but when she was exhausted, Dad was there to take over. When she was selected for All-Stars, her parents trekked to Birmingham so she could play. Glenn even found a softball coach seemingly in the middle of nowhere and made sure she got there.

In sixth grade, Hannah desperately wanted a particular softball bat. Glenn told her it was simply too expensive. A few days later, he picked her up, and there it was waiting in the car.

That was Dad.

When Hannah wanted to try golf, Glenn found lessons. The golfing career was admittedly short-lived, but he supported it while it lasted. When she learned chess, he took her to tournaments. Soccer meant showing up to games. Theater meant being in the audience as Hannah moved from lights, to sound, to stage manager. Debate meant tournaments. Youth group meant rides and mission-trip fundraisers. Later came Civil Air Patrol and even Hannah's consideration of pursuing a nomination to the United States Air Force. Whatever the interest, Glenn and Susan were there.

And if what Hannah wanted did not already exist, there was a decent chance her dad could simply build it.

When sixth-grade Hannah decided she wanted to win the Halloween costume contest, Glenn built her entire costume from scratch. At Lake Martin, Hannah and Austin helped their dad build the boat dock at their grandfather's house, adding something with their own hands to a place that would hold countless family memories.

At their old property, Hannah and her dad built a hunting stand together. Glenn later helped Hannah get her first deer, but the memory did not end with the hunt. They had the deer mounted and worked together to tan the hide, turning another experience with Dad into something Hannah could quite literally carry forward with her.

Some of Hannah's favorite memories with her dad happened outdoors. Glenn served as a Boy Scout troop leader while Austin worked his way toward becoming an Eagle Scout. During his years leading the troop, it grew from roughly 40 boys to around 90. Hannah spent so many evenings at Aldersgate doing homework while her dad and brother were at troop meetings that she earned her own "woodchip." Every once in a while, she even got to tag along on the camping trips.

And then there was fishing.

Before a fishing trip, Hannah would help pack the lunch pack, including one very important staple: sharp cheddar cheese and Saltines. After several hours out in the warmth, the cheddar would inevitably start sweating, which was exactly the point. Halfway through the day, Hannah and her dad would break out the crackers and their beloved "greasy cheese." It may not sound particularly gourmet to anyone else, but to Hannah, greasy cheese on Saltines still tastes like a day spent fishing with Dad.

One of those trips produced a story Hannah will probably tell forever. She and her dad caught a fish, cut off its head, and decided to put it back on a hook as bait. They watched and waited for what felt like forever. Eventually, nothing happened, so they went to bed.

The next morning, there was a twelve-pound bass on the line.

Their shared culinary tastes extend to another delicacy that most of the family would probably prefer they keep to themselves: sardines. To this day, Hannah and Glenn remain two of the only people Hannah knows who genuinely enjoy eating them. There is, however, one standing household requirement.

Sardines are eaten outside.

**"Them's the rules."**

Adventure with Dad was not limited to hunting, camping, and fishing. Family ski trips took them to Breckenridge and Vail, where Hannah initially needed lessons just to get started. Once she got the hang of it, Glenn helped her learn how to handle the harder trails. Eventually, Hannah and Austin were skiing double black diamonds together.

There were mountain trips to cabins in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, summers at Lake Martin, and trips south to Orange Beach and Pensacola to visit Aunt Linda, Glenn's mother, and Bart. Bart was a Grand Master and helped inspire Hannah's love of chess, another interest Glenn made sure she had the opportunity to pursue.

But some of what Hannah remembers most has nothing to do with vacations or hobbies.

Her dad dropped her off at school every morning while her mom picked her up in the afternoon. During the brief period when Hannah had to ride the bus, if she missed it, she knew exactly who she could call. Dad would come get her.

As Hannah got older, that support never stopped. Glenn and Susan came to the soccer games and theater productions, supported the debate tournaments and mission trips, and eventually helped Hannah through not one, but two college degrees. Hannah was allowed to change her mind, discover something new, fail at something, become good at something else, and then start all over again. Her parents gave her the room to figure out who she wanted to become.

Somewhere along the way, Glenn was also teaching Hannah something she did not fully appreciate until much later: how to fix just about anything.

She got her first real hint while volunteering with Alabama Rural Ministry, where she helped repair around twenty homes. Hannah kept realizing that she knew how to do things the other kids had never been taught. She knew how tools worked. She understood how things went together. She could look at a problem and start figuring out how to fix it. At the time, she knew she had learned a lot from her dad. She just did not yet understand how much.

That realization came years later, when Hannah and Mikhaila bought their own house.

Suddenly, Hannah found herself laying pipe, working with PVC, rewiring things, doing carpentry and electrical work, repairing appliances, troubleshooting problems, and tackling project after project. Somewhere in the middle of building a home of her own, Hannah realized just how much of what she knew had started with her dad.

Glenn had taught her everything under the sun, often without either of them stopping to call it a lesson.

His favorite reminder has always been, **"Work smarter, not harder."** Hannah heard it so many times growing up that it became part instruction, part philosophy, and part Dad. And behind that is the Yost family standard that has followed them through everything:

**"Only the best."**

Glenn spent his career as a chief electrical engineer, so perhaps none of this should be surprising. Building, fixing, troubleshooting, and figuring things out were simply part of life with Dad. These days, he has another person to "talk shop" with. He loves Mikhaila, and the two can happily disappear into conversations about construction, projects, and how something ought to be built.

For Hannah, there is something especially meaningful about that now. The person she is building a life with can sit beside the person who taught her how to build one.

Looking back, Hannah can find her dad's fingerprints all over her childhood, but now she can find them all over her adulthood too. They are on the softball bat waiting in the car, the Halloween costume he made from scratch, the dock they built at Lake Martin, the hunting stand they built together, the ski trails he taught her to navigate, the school drop-offs, tournaments, practices, camping trips, fishing poles, and more than a few packages of questionably warm cheddar cheese.

And now they are there every time Hannah picks up a tool, looks at something broken, and thinks, *I can probably fix that.*

Glenn never decided what Hannah should become. He simply made sure that whatever she decided to become, she had someone in her corner teaching her, challenging her, and helping her figure out how to get there.

And as Hannah and Mikhaila build a home, a marriage, and a life together, she carries far more of her dad with her than she ever realized.

**Work smarter, not harder. Only the best.**

And if there are sardines involved, take them outside.

**Them's the rules.**

Some of Hannah's favorite memories with her mom, Susan, are not necessarily the biggest ones. They are the traditions, shared interests, and ordinary moments that became part of who Hannah is.

Hannah and Susan have always been collectors and makers together. They loved going to rock and mineral shows and building their collections, and Susan taught Hannah so much about the stones they brought home, even teaching her how to make gem trees. Susan's own collection eventually made its way into Hannah's science classroom, where, over the course of three years, she would bring pieces in and help teach the other students. To this day, Susan loves just about anything that sparkles, a trait Hannah knows very well.

Their creative adventures extended to arts and crafts fairs, thrift stores, and antique shops. Susan taught Hannah to crochet, although Hannah freely admits she never quite reached her mother's level. Susan was winning ribbons at the state fair for her crochet while Hannah was collecting her own for Lego dioramas. She helped Hannah learn to bake and decorate with the help of Margaret's cookbooks, and Hannah eventually even won a cupcake decorating competition at the state fair.

But if Hannah had to choose the place that holds some of her very favorite memories with her mom, it would be the Pike Road Arts & Crafts Fair.

Susan served as the fair's treasurer, which meant Hannah could often be found upstairs with her for the entire day, helping count money and serving as the runner whenever someone needed change. Those days spent surrounded by stacks of bills and coins are actually where Hannah's love of coin collecting began. They also gave her a front-row seat to something she already knew: seemingly everyone knew and loved her mom. Susan has always had a way of making people laugh, and even the sheriffs working the fair knew her by name.

Of course, Hannah had another important responsibility at the fair: getting downstairs to the bake sale in time for the famous buttermilk pie.

Some years, she would race downstairs only to discover, devastatingly, that it had already sold. Except sometimes it hadn't really been lost at all. Susan had gotten to it first, bought it before Hannah had the chance, and stashed it away because she already knew exactly what her daughter would be looking for. As far as Hannah is concerned, that was just Susan being Susan, and also proof that her mom was considerably cooler than everyone else.

The fair was more than a family tradition. Susan and Glenn poured themselves into the community surrounding it, and in 2008, their contributions to the Marks House, where the community club held the Pike Road Arts & Crafts Fair, helped earn their family the honor of Family of the Year.

There were quieter traditions too. At Lake Martin, Hannah's grandfather's house became a special gathering place for the family. Hannah remembers watching old movies, working on puzzles, and sitting with her mom watching the rain fall over the lake. During summers at home, Hannah could spend hours making polymer clay creations while reruns played on MeTV, then hurry downstairs to show her mom whatever she had just made. At night came another familiar routine: the news at ten, followed by *The Andy Griffith Show* at 10:30.

As Hannah grew older, they found new things to share. When Hannah joined Alpha Gamma Delta, she was joining the same sisterhood her mom had belonged to at the University of Montevallo. It gave them another connection, this time between two different generations of their lives.

Through all of it, Susan was there. Brownies, track, cross country, softball and soccer, theater productions, college, and every new interest Hannah discovered along the way.

When a young Hannah was miserable and homesick at Girl Scout camp after a huge storm, an incredible package arrived from home filled with games, coloring books, toys, and a beautiful letter from her parents. It is a gesture Hannah has never forgotten. Even now, Susan is still the mom who spots a little trinket somewhere, thinks of Hannah, and makes sure it finds its way to her.

And then there is Mikhaila.

Susan loved her before she even knew who she was. The first time Susan saw Mikhaila, they were leaving Hannah's graduation photos. Susan looked at Hannah, asked who the woman nearby was, and said she was one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen, even asking whether she was a model. She had absolutely no idea at the time just how important that beautiful stranger would become to their family.

Years later, Susan loves Mikhaila dearly. For Hannah, there is something wonderfully fitting about standing beside Mikhaila on their wedding day with the woman who taught her to collect beautiful things, make beautiful things, laugh often, and find meaning in the smallest traditions there to watch.

And knowing Susan, there will probably be something sparkly involved.

Mikhaila's Party

Mikhaila and Ally’s friendship began in 2013, when Mikhaila joined the high school marching band as an eighth grader. With her older brother serving as both a senior leader and her ride home, Mikhaila often found herself staying at band camp long after she needed to. Ally noticed and offered her a ride home. That simple act of kindness marked the beginning of a friendship that would become one of the most meaningful in Mikhaila’s life.

Ally was a constant source of support throughout Mikhaila’s teenage years, and their lives came together again at Auburn when they had the opportunity to live together at Unit #37, affectionately known as “The Nest.” Through every season since, Ally has remained a trusted voice of reason, a source of encouragement, and someone whose perspective Mikhaila deeply values.

More than a best friend, Ally has become the sister Mikhaila was fortunate enough to find along the way, making it especially meaningful to have her standing beside her as Maid of Honor.

Ally Smith

Mikhaila met Sarah during her freshman year at Auburn, where Sarah was one of the original residents of The Nest. Sarah had recently returned to Auburn after beating cancer, a testament to the strength and determination that Mikhaila would come to admire so deeply in her.

Their friendship began with a memory that still makes Mikhaila smile. Sarah’s hair had grown back short and beautifully wavy, and Mikhaila decided that the obvious response was to give her one of her du-rags. From there came countless memories, including Sarah bringing home a kitten named Cash and, perhaps unexpectedly, turning Mikhaila into a cat person.

Over the years, Mikhaila has had the privilege of witnessing Sarah’s strength, resilience, and determination firsthand. Mikhaila stood near Sarah as she celebrated her own wedding, and it is particularly special that Sarah will now stand beside Mikhaila as she begins this next chapter.

Sarah Defalco

Wendy holds the distinction of being Mikhaila’s oldest friend. Their friendship began in 2006, shortly after Mikhaila’s family moved from Norfolk, Virginia, to Birmingham. A neighborhood bike ride with her older brother led Mikhaila to meet Wendy’s younger brother, Bruce, who invited her to dinner with his family. There, she met Wendy, beginning a friendship that has now spanned more than twenty years.

Their history is filled with the kinds of memories that can only come from growing up together, from riding bikes through the neighborhood and racing one another to school to navigating college and adulthood side by side. One memory Mikhaila still treasures is one of the simplest: shortly after receiving her driver’s license, she picked Wendy up for a late-night trip to Walmart to buy milk. It was an ordinary moment that became unforgettable simply because they shared it.

Today, their lives may place them hours apart, but distance has never diminished a friendship built over two decades. Having Wendy beside Mikhaila on her wedding day is a reflection of just how much of life they have already shared.

Wendy Le

Mikhaila and Hailey knew one another before 2020, having crossed paths at gatherings and through mutual friends, but their friendship truly took shape during the months of quarantine. As university life moved online, so did much of their social lives, and a shared love of PlayStation and video games gave them an unexpected opportunity to become close.

What began as late nights and early mornings gaming together developed into a friendship far more meaningful than either may have anticipated. Mikhaila came to know Hailey as someone who encourages the people she loves to step beyond what is comfortable, while never asking them to do so without her support.

Mikhaila was honored to stand beside Hailey on her wedding day. Having Hailey return that gesture by standing beside Mikhaila on hers makes their friendship, and this moment, all the more meaningful.
